Miriam Landis is an author, educator, and former professional ballet dancer who brings over 40 years of experience in the performing arts and education to her work. She serves as the Ballet Program Director and as ballet faculty at Creation Dance Studio on Mercer Island, WA.
She writes fiction that blends her love of dance with themes of resilience, growth, and artistry. Her books include Lauren in the Limelight, Girl in Motion, and Girl on Pointe.
Miriam firmly believes that dance is for everyone, at every stage of life. Her teaching style emphasizes building technical precision and confidence in a warm, inclusive environment. She is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of dancers and artists.
She brings her extensive training at the School of American Ballet, Ballet West and the University of Utah Dance Department, San Francisco Ballet School, and the Rock School of the Pennsylvania Ballet to her students. She was a member of the Miami City Ballet under the direction of Edward Villella and danced principal roles in Balanchine’s "Stars and Stripes," "The Steadfast Tin Soldier," and Bournonville’s "Flower Festival Pas de Deux." Transitioning her talents into education, Miriam has shared her expertise at numerous studios and universities, including Pacific Northwest Ballet School, Stanford University, and the University of Utah.
Beyond the studio, Miriam holds a B.A. in English from Stanford University and spent a decade working in book publishing at Simon & Schuster, Hyperion, and on the Amazon Books team. When she isn't teaching, writing, or supporting the local performing arts and literary scenes, Miriam loves spending time on the Island with her husband, four children, and their mischievous miniature poodle.
